- Preparation
- Tell us about sensitivity and previous repairs
Understand the repair firstIf a tooth is damaged or a filling needs attention, we begin with an assessment. Tell us when you first noticed the problem, whether the tooth feels different when you bite and what repairs it has had before. An appointment request does not commit you to a filling. We first check which approach is suitable.Discussing the optionsWe explain the area that needs attention and the repair we propose. Depending on the findings, we may discuss a filling, another form of repair or further assessment. You can ask about materials, appearance, expected costs and the limits of the proposed treatment. We also discuss local anaesthetic and any concerns you have before starting.Bring an up-to-date list of medicines.Tell us if a previous dental visit was difficult.Ask how much time to allow for the appointment.Checking the resultAfter a filling, we check how your teeth meet and explain the advice that applies to your repair. You have time to ask questions before leaving. If the tooth does not feel right afterwards, contact the practice so we can discuss a review. We explain any further treatment separately rather than assuming it is part of the same visit.
